Measuring the dose in bone for spine stereotactic body radiotherapy

چکیده
PurposeCurrent quality assurance of radiotherapy involving bony regions generally utilises homogeneous phantoms and dose calculations, ignoring the challenges heterogeneities with dosimetry problems likely occurring around bone. Anthropomorphic synthetic materials enable realistic end-to-end testing in clinical scenarios. This work reports on measurements calculated corrections required to directly report context comprehensive audit (63 plans, 6 planning systems).Materials methodsRadiochromic film microDiamond were performed an anthropomorphic spine phantom containing bone equivalent materials. Medium dependent correction factors, kmed, established using MV 10 Linear Accelerator Monte Carlo simulations account for detectors being calibrated water, but measuring material. Both cortical trabecular material investigated verification calculations dose-to-medium (Dm,m) dose-to-water (Dw,w) scenarios.ResultsFor Dm,m modelled factors measurements, 0.875(±0.1%), 0.953(±0.3%) 0.962(±0.4%), respectively. For Dw,w 0.920(±0.1%), 0.982(±0.3%) 0.993(±0.4%), In audit, application improves mean agreement between treatment plans measured from −2.4%(±3.9%) 0.4%(±3.7%).ConclusionMonte provide a method correcting allowing more accurate comparison system doses. algorithm specific should be applied variations based Dw,w.

Stereotactic body radiotherapy for solitary spine metastasis
A clear consensus has not been established regarding the best treatment for solitary bone metastasis. Here, we reviewed the medical records of patients with a controlled primary malignancy who had only solitary spine metastasis without metastasis to the extraspinal bone or viscera and underwent treatment between April 2007 and December 2012 with stereotactic body radiosurgery using CyberKnife, ...
متن کاملStereotactic body radiotherapy in the management of painful bone metastases.
More than 100,000 new cases of bone metastases are diagnosed each year, and they present an important clinical problem. They cause significant morbidity and quality-of-life issues in cancer patients. Conventional external-beam radiotherapy is currently the most common method to treat these metastases, with several randomized controlled trials showing no difference in effectiveness between multi...
متن کاملSpine Stereotactic Body Radiotherapy: Indications, Outcomes, and Points of Caution
STUDY DESIGN A broad narrative review. OBJECTIVES The objective of this article is to provide a technical review of spine stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) planning and delivery, indications for treatment, outcomes, complications, and the challenges of response assessment. The surgical approach to spinal metastases is discussed with an overview of emerging minimally invasive techniques. ...
متن کاملStereotactic body radiotherapy for spinal and bone metastases.
Stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) can deliver high radiation doses to small volumes with very tight margins, which has significant advantages when treating tumours close to the spinal cord or at sites of retreatment. When treating spinal tumours, meticulous quality control is essential with effective immobilisation, as dose gradients at the edge of the spinal cord will be steep and excessiv...
متن کاملSafety of high-dose-rate stereotactic body radiotherapy
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Flattening filter free (FFF) beams with high dose rate are increasingly used for stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT), because they substantially shorten beam-on time. The physical properties of these beams together with potentially unknown radiobiological effects might affect patient safety. Therefore here we analyzed the clinical outcome of our patients. MATERIAL AND...
